A very important segment of the common cultural heritage of Skopje and Macedonia is undoubtedly the Old Bazaar which is left in the lurch and falls into oblivion. However, this very part of the city Skopje is rich with deep layers of cultural living, history, art, but it is an example of cohabitation and common cultural history throughout the centuries.

CTC, which is located in the heart of the Old Bazaar, in cooperation with the City of Skopje is going to give its contribution to the revitalization of the bazaar.

CTC, being rich in languages, nationalities intervened with high aesthetic values in its programme, that is artistic part, has already given its contribution by reactivating the so called forgotten cultural events which were so present throughout the history at this cultural spot in the city of Skopje.

CTC as the first big step has succeeded to return the spirit of the old time when there were Karagoz shadows shows played in the bazaar, which are very important for these territories and for the development of the Macedonian theatre in general. Thus, the last year the bazaar at Cifte Amam, after a long time, hosted the original Karagoz show performed by Karagozdzii from Turkey who surrounded by the beautiful architecture of the bazaar and Cifte Amam felt like being home, the auditorium and the bazaar itself was full of rattle and laughter, and the tradition looked like never being broken.

The Children’s Theatre Centre is aiming at taking many steps forward at this direction. Its future plans, which were partly a reality, include street shows for children and adults, art demonstrations which are part of the conceptual art, exhibits, concerts etc.

Briefly, the aim of the Children’s Theatre Centre is to become a home for the culture where the difference in languages, customs will not be felt, that is all the differences shall flow into one, shall form one enormous treasure. This was actually the motto of the Old Bazaar during the centuries.
